We had never put Scotland on our travel-to list, but something happened last year that made it a Must-Go!
(Mike’s Version) Our oldest, Maureen, has taken up her family genealogy. Last year (2018), she found a Ewing Family Association that was having their bi-annual gathering in Nashville. It was a fun time with interesting people but too much to put into this entry. A couple of takeaways from the 2018 gathering led to us in Scotland in 2019.

Takeaway #1 was that the long dormant “Ewing” clan has been re-chartered with its own Tartan and would celebrate its return to life at the Cowal Highland games in Scotland. This was interesting but I don’t wear my Scottish heritage on my sleeve and that was not enough to want to add Scotland to our 2019 travel schedule. However, takeaway #2 was the date of the official recognition, August 29th. That date is my birthday (70th) and that of my 4 year old grandson, Connall Walker Ewing.
Now I’m in the cross hairs of both Maureen and Margaret and it became a must go for 2019. Connall could not attend since he will have a new baby sister, Isla Clare Ewing, in a few weeks. Last year when Margaret turned 70 we spent a week in Italy with her cousins and Scotland seemed to be my turn. And here we are not knowing quite what to expect from a homeland that my ancestors left 280 years ago. I do expect everybody and their uncles to try and sell me a full kilt package. I have a strong feeling that they will be disappointed (the means you too Margaret!)
