Citta Sant Angela map.jpg

We live in the town of Citta' Sant'Angelo in the San Martino Bassa area.   Our apartment is about 10 minutes to the beach, 10 minutes up a hill to the old town.  The mountains are about 45 minutes away.  The city of Pescara, 20 minutes away, has a train and bus station and an airport.

The day before

Well, it's Sunday and we leave for Italy tomorrow. We've worked our scrum board, and just have 4 stickies left. Mike is busy packing. I've got my larger suitcase packed and locked. The two smaller ones are still open, but I know what goes in them. Last minute stuff.

People ask how we are feeling. It's a mix. Excitement. Anxiety. Lots of emotions. We are going to miss Chicago and the kids. Our last six months living with Caroline and Constance have been good for all of us, at least in retrospect. We've been able to help her a lot with her house. As a new homeowner, she had a lot to learn. But she's over that hump now and pleased with her choice. We've also been able to spend more time with Maureen and Todd. Moe's been a big help to us with packing boxes to ship. And a huge moral support.

We had eight boxes to ship using Send My Bag. They were picked up last Thursday by a DHL driver. They are still in Chicago and haven't been scanned in yet. So we are hoping that they will eventually arrive at our new home.

When we moved in with Caroline, we either sold furniture and household stuff, gave it to Caroline, donated to Good Will, or put a few things in storage. The last possession to off-load was our car. I loved that car. It was a 2018 Honda CRV, Touring Edition with only 27,000 miles on it. CarMax bought it from us for just $1,000 less than what we paid for it new. Nice, huh?

We had hoped to move last November. But the Italian consulate didn't give us our visa until December 27. Then we had some health issues (I'll let Mike talk about that) which set up back again. We continued to pay rent on the house in Italy because it's so cute we didn't want to lose it. The landlord has been very nice. She's moved back to England, but she's at the house now, making sure it's ready for us.

Our flight leaves Chicago at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow. We change planes in Newark, then arrive in Rome at about 7:00 a.m. Tuesday. I wanted to fly business class, but it was crazy expensive. Until today. United Airlines offered a huge discount, so I convinced Mike to upgrade. Eight hours on a plane. One needs leg room!

I really am looking forward to our adventures. Please check in on us occasionally.

Ciao,

Margaret
