Mike here, Just as we were looking forward to warmer temps, we went back into windy 40s & 50s (F) but sunny. The forecasted rain never really appeared, Sunday they say. We’ve hung our laundry outside the last two days and watched the wind stretch everything horizontally. I was wondering why Pamela had so many clothespins in her laundry basket. Our towels were covered in clothespins to keep them from blowing away.
We ordered some things from Amazon and they arrived on Friday instead of Monday and our neighbors stashed them in their houses. A common occurrence, they said, and one they all do for each other. Our English neighbor, Paul, stopped on his way out to say that the local bar/supermarket (8 km away from us) had a vendor that showed up every Friday at 4PM with his food truck and a leg of pork. We met up with Paul there and another English couple (Dave & Anne) and had pork sandwiches hacked off the leg and beers. The five of us had a good chat sitting outside in the sun.
I’m sure Margaret will post about getting our 8 boxes of clothes on Thursday. We are starting to unpack but we targeted the last boxes we packed in Chicago to get out my Flannel shirts and Margaret’s Flannel pajamas.
On Friday, we confirmed our status as rookies by going shopping unprepared in Vasto, 30 minutes away by car. We left at 11ish without eating lunch, packed no water and no reusable bags. We knew better but were unprepared anyway. There we were, hungry in Vasto just in time to realize that all the restaurants were closing shortly and would not reopen for several hours. We were REALLY happy when we got home and learned about the food truck at the bar.
We have several more chilly days to come until it warms up into the 60s (F) on Wednesday. I’ve become pretty adept at maintaining a warm fire in the kitchen fireplace box and it’s comfortable in the kitchen as the wind howls outside. Margaret and I are busily keyboarding away to get our blogs in shape. Hope you enjoy them!
